History of the AAOP - Upper Limb Prosthetics Society

The AAOP - Upper Limb Prosthetics Society (ULPS) was formed in 1991 with a goal that endures today - "to provide a forum for education and communication among the practitioners of this specialty.” The cornerstone of the ULPS is “the realization that upper limb prosthetic fitting and care require special expertise on the part of both the prosthetist and the occupational therapist." This synergistic relationship "will result in improved care for all upper limb amputees.” *

In accordance with the AAOP Scientific Society Operating Procedures Manual – May 2005, the ULPS adopts and pursues the stated model society objectives:
(1) To share information and knowledge among Society members
(2) To encourage literature, clinical and product development research
(3) To present and publish the results of the above objectives
